Nancy Duarte is a brilliant graphic designer but also a great brand builder and communicator. In this video, she does a brilliant job of breaking down what makes an effective presentation. To illustrate, she breaks down MLK’s “I have a dream” speech and Steve Jobs’ iPhone launch to show that they a common architecture with all great communications.
The money quote, I think, is when she says that although when we give a presentation it feels like we are on our “hero’s journey,” the real hero’s journey is the one your listener is taking. Worth watching, it will definitely make you better at engaging people in your ideas.
